Enkhuizen - Hoorn - Medemblik
Discover the rich maritime past of three historic towns along the IJsselmeer: Enkhuizen, Hoorn, and Medemblik. Each city has its own story to tell, but all share a deep connection to water, trade, and Dutch history.
Enkhuizen was once home to the largest herring fleet in the Netherlands and hosted chambers of both the Dutch East India Company (VOC) and the West India Company. As you stroll through its charming 17th-century streets, you’ll pass original buildings that reflect its seafaring power and prosperity.
In Hoorn, you’ll discover a city that flourished during the 17th century. Also a VOC city, Hoorn made history when two of its sailors, Jacob le Maire and Willem Cornelisz Schouten, sailed around the southern tip of South America, naming it Cape Horn after their hometown.
Medemblik, the oldest of the three, thrived thanks to trade and bustling markets. With its medieval origins and the impressive Radboud Castle - once used as a courthouse and even a prison - it offers a glimpse into a much earlier chapter of Dutch history.
This tour is your chance to walk in the footsteps of sailors, merchants, and explorers, while enjoying scenic views and the stories that shaped the Dutch 17th century.
