Giethoorn

If Amsterdam is the Venice of Northern Europe, then charming little Giethoorn is without a doubt the Venice of the Netherlands.

Tucked away in the province of Overijssel, this picturesque village is famous for its peaceful canals, wooden arch bridges, and thatched-roof cottages. In the historic centre, you only find waterways and walking paths. You get around by boat, and the only traffic jams here happen on the water, thanks to the whisper-quiet electric boats gliding by.

Strolling through Giethoorn feels like stepping into a fairy tale. Beautifully kept gardens, cozy cafés by the water, and the gentle sound of birds and boats make it the perfect place to unwind and enjoy the slower pace of village life.
